    Abstract
    Following a description of the changing roles of library and information professionals and impact of information technology, this paper examines the shift in application of innovative IT to Library and Information and what as attributed to this changes. It also proffers an appropriate content on the skills required to man the information technology environment in general and more so in reference to University Libraries. A case study based on University Libraries in Kenya- Africa examines the level of knowledge and skills that the Library and Information Professionals have and are acquiring in the use and application of information technology including the mode of acquisitions. Essence, need and the way forward on the required skills are also covered and attempts to ensure that the present library and information professionals are well prepared to meet the current challenges
